The MARC team is currently investigating the possible resting site of a British  vessel off Deerfield Beach, Florida.  Research and physical evidence suggest this vessel is perhaps a 19th century frigate. 

In 1967,  Daryl Wilmoth discovered a 5 foot  iron cannon and a large ballast pile uncovered off the beach by Hurricane Cleo.  The cannon was an 838 pound cannon designed for four pound rounds.

The markings on the cannon read Bailey Pegg and Co., which  research proved to exist both in London and Staffordshire, England as late as the 1800’s.   

Daryl treated and conserved the cannon according to 1967 convention with zinc and sodium hydroxide. He then donated the cannon to the Gumbo Limbo Nature Center, a state facility nearest to the site on the shoreline where it remains on display today.

The MARC team is currently conducting  non-disturbance remote sensing of the area to determine the feasibility of applying with the State for a research driven exploratory contract.  Our data is available to any graduate level archaeologist interested in this area as well as to any interested in functioning as principle investigator.

Currently, the team is using magnetometry, underwater infrared tow cameras, and  diver deployed pin point magnetometers in a strictly non-disturbance effort.

All  relative data and imagery will be made part of the State Data Base.

This British canon was donated by Daryl Wilmoth to the Gumbo Limbo Nature Center of Boca Raton, Florida, where it remains on display.
